and he will not deviate from it, even in old age. - Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

- Honor your father and your mother so that your days may be lengthened in the land that the Lord your God, will give you.

and a brother is born to render help in time of need. - May the Lord, our God, be with us, just as he was with our fathers; may he not leave us or abandon us.

but a true friend is closer than a brother. - If it seems wrong to you to serve the Lord, then today you must choose whom you will serve, whether it be the gods that your fathers served on the other side of the river, or the gods of the Amorites who dwell in the land. As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.

Everyone who has this hope in him

just as he is pure. - If you, then, despite your evil nature, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!

he who begets a wise son will delight in him. - My son, if your heart is wise,
then my heart will be glad. - A wise son brings joy to his father,
but a foolish son gives grief to his mother. - Do not forsake your friend or the friend of your father,
and do not run to your brother’s house when troubles befall you;
far better is a friend nearby
than a brother who is far away. - You shall not kill. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness. Honor your father and your mother. Love your neighbor as yourself.
