God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should repent. Has he said, and he won’t do it? Or has he spoken, and he won’t make it good? | God is not human, that he should lie, or the son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act, does he promise and then not fulfill it? |
Happy is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gets understanding. | Blessed is the person who has found wisdom, the one who has gained understanding. |
So that with good courage we say, “The Lord is my helper. I will not fear. What can man do to me?” | Therefore, we can say with confidence: “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?” |

I, even I, am he who comforts you. Who are you, that you are afraid of man who shall die, and of the son of man who will be made as grass? | I, I alone, am the one who comforts you. Why then do you fear mortal men who must die, human beings who must perish like grass? |
It is a snare to a man to make a rash dedication, then later to consider his vows. | It is rash to pledge a sacred gift, or to make a vow and then have second thoughts. |
He who walks blamelessly walks surely, but he who perverts his ways will be found out. | Anyone who leads an honorable life walks in safety, but whoever pursues wicked ways will be found out. |
It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife, but every fool will be quarreling. | It is honorable to avoid strife, but every fool is quarrelsome. |
This poor man cried, and Yahweh heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. | In my anguish I cried out; the Lord heard my plea, and I was saved from all my troubles. |
He humbled you, allowed you to be hungry, and fed you with manna, which you didn’t know, neither did your fathers know, that he might teach you that man does not live by bread only, but man lives by every word that proceeds out of Yahweh’s mouth. | He brought you low, allowing you to suffer from hunger. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering and acquainted with disease.
