He said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers for men.” | “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” |
While they were looking steadfastly into the sky as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white clothing, who also said, “You men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who was received up from you into the sky, will come back in the same way as you saw him going into the sky.” | They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” |

But he said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” | Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” |
Who exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. For their women changed the natural function into that which is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural function of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another, men doing what is inappropriate with men, and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their error. Even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting. | They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. |
He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering and acquainted with disease. He was despised as one from whom men hide their face; and we didn’t respect him. | He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. |
For no prophecy ever came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke, being moved by the Holy Spirit. | For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. |
For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? For if I were still pleasing men, I wouldn’t be a servant of Christ. | Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. |
There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved! | Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. |
If I speak with the languages of men and of angels, but don’t have love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. | If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. |
For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. | For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus. |
Looking at them, Jesus said, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” | Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” |
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who is born King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him.” | After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” |
Jesus, looking at them, said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God, for all things are possible with God.” | Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” |
Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. | And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. |
Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace, good will toward men. | Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests. |
Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. | Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. |
A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men. | A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great. |
If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. | If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. |
Watch! Stand firm in the faith! Be courageous! Be strong! | Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. |
He isn’t here, but is risen. Remember what he told you when he was still in Galilee, saying that the Son of Man must be delivered up into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and the third day rise again? | He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ |
One who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm. | Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. |
For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. | For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. |
Children’s children are the crown of old men; the glory of children is their parents. | Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children. |
But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. | But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. |
And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. | Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. |
