They decorate it with gold and silver and then fasten it securely with hammer and nails so it won’t fall over. Their gods are like helpless scarecrows in a cucumber field! They cannot speak, and they need to be carried because they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of such gods, for they can neither harm you nor do you any good. | For the customs of the peoples are vanity. A tree from the forest is cut down and worked with an axe by the hands of a craftsman. They decorate it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so that it cannot move. Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field, and they cannot speak; they have to be carried, for they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good. |
| Slaves must always obey their masters and do their best to please them. They must not talk back or steal, but must show themselves to be entirely trustworthy and good. Then they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive in every way. | Bondservants are to be submissive to their own masters in everything; they are to be well-pleasing, not argumentative, not pilfering, but showing all good faith, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior. |
| So you, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know what day your Lord is coming. | Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. |

| You must keep my Sabbath days of rest and show reverence for my sanctuary. I am the Lord. | You shall keep my Sabbaths and reverence my sanctuary: I am the Lord. |

| We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord. | Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. |

But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. |

| Jesus replied, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.” | And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” |
