Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous. | Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. |
You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! | You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. |

This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. | This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. |
Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. | Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. |
Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing. | So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. |
For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. | This is the message you have heard from the beginning: We should love one another. |
Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. | There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. |
Bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. | Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. |
And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and My Father are one. | I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one. |
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. | Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. |
Therefore receive one another, just as Christ also received us, to the glory of God. | Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory. |
Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. | All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had. |
There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another? | God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor? |
Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents. | In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents. |
But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head. | But you, O Lord, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high. |
With all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love. | Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. |
But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many. | But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ. |
Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown. | I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take away your crown. |
For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. | I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. |
No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him. | No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us. |
But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one. | But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. |
Who “will render to each one according to his deeds” | He will judge everyone according to what they have done. |
And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. | Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. |
If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. | And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. |
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” | For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” |
