| Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him! | Oh taste and see that Yahweh is good. Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. |
| Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing. | The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger, but those who seek Yahweh shall not lack any good thing. |
| Then keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies! | Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking lies. |
| Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it. | Depart from evil, and do good. Seek peace, and pursue it. |
| The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help. | Yahweh’s eyes are toward the righteous. His ears listen to their cry. |
| But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil; he will erase their memory from the earth. | Yahweh’s face is against those who do evil, to cut off their memory from the earth. |
| The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. | The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. |
| The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time. | Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but Yahweh delivers him out of them all. |
| But the Lord will redeem those who serve him. No one who takes refuge in him will be condemned. | Yahweh redeems the soul of his servants. None of those who take refuge in him shall be condemned. |
| Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. | Trust in Yahweh, and do good. Dwell in the land, and enjoy safe pasture. |
| Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. | Also delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart. |
| Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you. He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn, and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun. | Commit your way to Yahweh. Trust also in him, and he will do this: he will make your righteousness shine out like light, and your justice as the noon day sun. |
| Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes. | Rest in Yahweh, and wait patiently for him. Don’t fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who makes wicked plots happen. |
| It is better to be godly and have little than to be evil and rich. For the strength of the wicked will be shattered, but the Lord takes care of the godly. | Better is a little that the righteous has, than the abundance of many wicked. For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, but Yahweh upholds the righteous. |
| The wicked borrow and never repay, but the godly are generous givers. | The wicked borrow, and don’t pay back, but the righteous give generously. |
| The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. | A man’s steps are established by Yahweh. He delights in his way. |
| For the Lord loves justice, and he will never abandon the godly. He will keep them safe forever, but the children of the wicked will die. | For Yahweh loves justice, and doesn’t forsake his saints. They are preserved forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off. |
| You know what I long for, Lord; you hear my every sigh. | Lord, all my desire is before you. My groaning is not hidden from you. |
| Hear my prayer, O Lord! Listen to my cries for help! Don’t ignore my tears. For I am your guest— a traveler passing through, as my ancestors were before me. | Hear my prayer, Yahweh, and give ear to my cry. Don’t be silent at my tears. For I am a stranger with you, a foreigner, as all my fathers were. |
| I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart. | I delight to do your will, my God. Yes, your law is within my heart. |
| Lord, don’t hold back your tender mercies from me. Let your unfailing love and faithfulness always protect me. | Don’t withhold your tender mercies from me, Yahweh. Let your loving kindness and your truth continually preserve me. |
