| Whoever conceals hatred with lying lips and spreads slander is a fool. | One who conceals hatred has lying lips, And one who spreads slander is a fool. |
| The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart; whose tongue utters no slander, who does no wrong to a neighbor, and casts no slur on others. | One who walks with integrity, practices righteousness, And speaks truth in his heart. He does not slander with his tongue, Nor do evil to his neighbor, Nor bring shame on his friend. |

| He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person.” | And He was saying, “That which comes out of the person, that is what defiles the person. | A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret. | One who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets, But one who is trustworthy conceals a matter. |
| A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends. | A perverse person spreads strife, And a slanderer separates close friends. |
