I didn’t recognize him, but he who sent me to baptize in water said to me, ‘On whomever you will see the Spirit descending and remaining on him is he who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’ | And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ |
I have set Yahweh always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. | I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. |
|
‘Return to me,’ says Yahweh of Armies, ‘and I will return to you,’ says Yahweh of Armies. | ‘Return to me,’ declares the Lord Almighty, ‘and I will return to you,’ says the Lord Almighty. |
I thank you and praise you, O God of my fathers, who have given me wisdom and might, and have now made known to me what we desired of you; for you have made known to us the king’s matter. | I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors: You have given me wisdom and power, you have made known to me what we asked of you, you have made known to us the dream of the king. |
Jesus therefore said to them again, “Peace be to you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” | Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” |
Do the things which you learned, received, heard, and saw in me, and the God of peace will be with you. | Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. |
He called the multitude to himself with his disciples and said to them, “Whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” | Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” |
“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are expedient. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be brought under the power of anything. | “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. |
I have chosen the way of truth. I have set your ordinances before me. | I have chosen the way of faithfulness; I have set my heart on your laws. |
In the multitude of my thoughts within me, your comforts delight my soul. | When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy. |
Establish my footsteps in your word. Don’t let any iniquity have dominion over me. | Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me. |
You will show me the path of life. In your presence is fullness of joy. In your right hand there are pleasures forever more. | You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. |
Then Jesus said, “I will be with you a little while longer, then I go to him who sent me.” | Jesus said, “I am with you for only a short time, and then I am going to the one who sent me.” |
In God, I praise his word. In God, I put my trust. I will not be afraid. What can flesh do to me? | In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? |
You shall most certainly not make gods of silver or gods of gold for yourselves to be alongside me. | Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold. |
But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. | May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. |
So that with good courage we say, “The Lord is my helper. I will not fear. What can man do to me?” | So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” |
“Yet even now,” says Yahweh, “turn to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.” | “Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.” |
If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on, you know him and have seen him. | If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him. |
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.” | Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” |
Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, to repay to each man according to his work. | Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. |
He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me. | But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. |
Deep calls to deep at the noise of your waterfalls. All your waves and your billows have swept over me. | Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me. |
Call to me, and I will answer you, and will show you great and difficult things, which you don’t know. | Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. |
I am the door. If anyone enters in by me, he will be saved, and will go in and go out and will find pasture. | I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. |
