I didn’t recognize him, but he who sent me to baptize in water said to me, ‘On whomever you will see the Spirit descending and remaining on him is he who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’ | I didn’t know he was the one, but when God sent me to baptize with water, he told me, ‘The one on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ |
I have set Yahweh always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. | I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. |
|
‘Return to me,’ says Yahweh of Armies, ‘and I will return to you,’ says Yahweh of Armies. | Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. |
I thank you and praise you, O God of my fathers, who have given me wisdom and might, and have now made known to me what we desired of you; for you have made known to us the king’s matter. | I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors, for you have given me wisdom and strength. You have told me what we asked of you and revealed to us what the king demanded. |
Jesus therefore said to them again, “Peace be to you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” | Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” |
Do the things which you learned, received, heard, and saw in me, and the God of peace will be with you. | Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you. |
He called the multitude to himself with his disciples and said to them, “Whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” | Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.” |
“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are expedient. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be brought under the power of anything. | You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything. |
I have chosen the way of truth. I have set your ordinances before me. | I have chosen to be faithful; I have determined to live by your regulations. |
In the multitude of my thoughts within me, your comforts delight my soul. | When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer. |
Establish my footsteps in your word. Don’t let any iniquity have dominion over me. | Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil. |
You will show me the path of life. In your presence is fullness of joy. In your right hand there are pleasures forever more. | You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever. |
Then Jesus said, “I will be with you a little while longer, then I go to him who sent me.” | But Jesus told them, “I will be with you only a little longer. Then I will return to the one who sent me.” |
In God, I praise his word. In God, I put my trust. I will not be afraid. What can flesh do to me? | I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me? |
You shall most certainly not make gods of silver or gods of gold for yourselves to be alongside me. | Remember, you must not make any idols of silver or gold to rival me. |
But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. | As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross, my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died. |
So that with good courage we say, “The Lord is my helper. I will not fear. What can man do to me?” | So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?” |
“Yet even now,” says Yahweh, “turn to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.” | That is why the Lord says, “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning.” |
If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on, you know him and have seen him. | If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him! |
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.” | Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” |
Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, to repay to each man according to his work. | Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. |
He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me. | Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. |
Deep calls to deep at the noise of your waterfalls. All your waves and your billows have swept over me. | I hear the tumult of the raging seas as your waves and surging tides sweep over me. |
Call to me, and I will answer you, and will show you great and difficult things, which you don’t know. | Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come. |
I am the door. If anyone enters in by me, he will be saved, and will go in and go out and will find pasture. | Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved. They will come and go freely and will find good pastures. |
