| And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their fellow believers. | And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God must also love his brother and sister. |
| Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. | Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. |
| Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged; parents are the pride of their children. | Grandchildren are the crown of the old, And the glory of sons is their fathers. |
| That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. | And those who are in the flesh cannot please God. |
| Some nations boast of their chariots and horses, but we boast in the name of the Lord our God. | Some praise their chariots and some their horses, But we will praise the name of the Lord, our God. |
| The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help. | The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous, And His ears are toward their cry for help. |
| Those who control their tongue will have a long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything. | One who guards his mouth protects his life; One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin. |
| But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil; he will erase their memory from the earth. | The face of the Lord is against evildoers, To eliminate the memory of them from the earth. |
| Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life. | Here is what I have seen to be good and fitting: to eat, to drink, and enjoy oneself in all one’s labor in which he labors under the sun during the few years of his life which God has given him; for this is his reward. |
| Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent; with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent. | Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is considered wise; When he closes his lips, he is considered prudent. |
| The rich think of their wealth as a strong defense; they imagine it to be a high wall of safety. | A rich person’s wealth is his strong city, And like a high wall in his own imagination. |
| And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. | She will give birth to a Son; and you shall name Him Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins. |
| Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. | Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to reward each one as his work deserves. |
| Can anyone object to their being baptized, now that they have received the Holy Spirit just as we did? | Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he? |
| They did not conquer the land with their swords; it was not their own strong arm that gave them victory. It was your right hand and strong arm and the blinding light from your face that helped them, for you loved them. | For by their own sword they did not possess the land, And their own arm did not save them, But Your right hand and Your arm and the light of Your presence, For You favored them. |
| People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy. | One who conceals his wrongdoings will not prosper, But one who confesses and abandons them will find compassion. |
| Fathers can give their sons an inheritance of houses and wealth, but only the Lord can give an understanding wife. | House and wealth are an inheritance from fathers, But a prudent wife is from the Lord. |
| Slaves must always obey their masters and do their best to please them. They must not talk back or steal, but must show themselves to be entirely trustworthy and good. Then they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive in every way. | Urge slaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be pleasing, not argumentative, not stealing, but showing all good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect. |
| They will never again be hungry or thirsty; they will never be scorched by the heat of the sun. For the Lamb on the throne will be their Shepherd. He will lead them to springs of life-giving water. | The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. | But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don’t worry or be afraid of their threats. | But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed. And do not fear their intimidation, and do not be in dread. |
| For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his Father and will judge all people according to their deeds. | For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will then repay every person according to his deeds. |
| They told you that in the last times there would be scoffers whose purpose in life is to satisfy their ungodly desires. These people are the ones who are creating divisions among you. They follow their natural instincts because they do not have God’s Spirit in them. | That they were saying to you, “In the last time there will be mockers, following after their own ungodly lusts.” These are the ones who cause divisions, worldly-minded, devoid of the Spirit. |
| Others were given in exchange for you. I traded their lives for yours because you are precious to me. You are honored, and I love you. | Since you are precious in My sight, Since you are honored and I love you, I will give other people in your place and other nations in exchange for your life. |
| I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message. | Truly, truly I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him. |
