For what will it profit them to gain the whole world and forfeit their life? | For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? |
Keep awake therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. | Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. |

Then what if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? | What then if you should see the Son of Man ascend where He was before? |
What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? | What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? |
Do not be mismatched with unbelievers. For what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship is there between light and darkness? | Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? |
See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. | Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. |
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect. | And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. |
What are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? | What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? |
What then? Should we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! | What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! |
In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I am not afraid; what can flesh do to me? | In God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me? |
So that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints. | The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints. |
I am coming soon; hold fast to what you have, so that no one may seize your crown. | Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown. |
What is desirable in a person is loyalty, and it is better to be poor than a liar. | What is desired in a man is kindness, And a poor man is better than a liar. |
But test everything; hold fast to what is good; abstain from every form of evil. | Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil. |
To you, O God of my ancestors, I give thanks and praise, for you have given me wisdom and power, and have now revealed to me what we asked of you, for you have revealed to us what the king ordered. | I thank You and praise You, O God of my fathers; You have given me wisdom and might, And have now made known to me what we asked of You, For You have made known to us the king’s demand. |
He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with him. | He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, And light dwells with Him. |
Be on your guard, so that you do not lose what we have worked for, but may receive a full reward. | Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward. |
What then should we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet, if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.” | What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.” |
If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. | And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. |
I know what it is to have little, and I know what it is to have plenty. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being well-fed and of going hungry, of having plenty and of being in need. | I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. |
So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?” | So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” |
For you need endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. | For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise. |
So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up. | And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. |

If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true. | If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. |
