| And the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. | God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God. |
| Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? | Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you? |
| You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. | You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. |
| For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. | Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace. |

| Blessings are on the head of the righteous, But violence covers the mouth of the wicked. | The godly are showered with blessings; the words of the wicked conceal violent intentions. |

| Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all. | The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time. |
| For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse. | For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. |
| And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him. | We are witnesses of these things and so is the Holy Spirit, who is given by God to those who obey him. |
| Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness. | Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing. |
| There are many plans in a man’s heart, Nevertheless the Lord’s counsel—that will stand. | You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail. |
