| My son, obey your father’s commands, and don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. | My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother. |
| And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. | I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. |
| But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. | Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. | God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. | Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. | Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins. | How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? |
| And he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them and said, “Each of you drink from it, for this is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people.
