| Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. | Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you. |
| In you, O Lord, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame; in your righteousness deliver me! | O Lord, I have come to you for protection; don’t let me be disgraced. Save me, for you do what is right. |

| But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me. | As for me, I look to the Lord for help. I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me. |
| Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. | God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied. |
