| Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O Lord: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me. | You, Lord, will not withhold Your compassion from me; Your mercy and Your truth will continually watch over me. |

| He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls. | Like a city that is broken into and without walls So is a person who has no self-control over his spirit. |
| Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. | Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written: “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. |
