Blessed is a person who finds wisdom, And one who obtains understanding. | Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. |
Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, When it is in your power to do it. | Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. |
Do not envy a violent person, And do not choose any of his ways. For the devious are an abomination to the Lord; But He is intimate with the upright. | Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways. For the froward is abomination to the Lord: but his secret is with the righteous. |
Acquire wisdom! Acquire understanding! Do not forget nor turn away from the words of my mouth. | Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. |

Let your eyes look directly ahead And let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you. | Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. |
Watch the path of your feet, And all your ways will be established. | Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. |
Do not turn to the right or to the left; Turn your foot from evil. | Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil. |
My son, comply with the commandment of your father, And do not ignore the teaching of your mother. | My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother. |
Or can a person walk on hot coals And his feet not be scorched? | Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? |
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride, arrogance, the evil way, And the perverted mouth, I hate. | The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. |
For one who finds me finds life, And obtains favor from the Lord. | For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord. |
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. | The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. |
A wise son makes a father glad, But a foolish son is a grief to his mother. | A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother. |
