Bible Verses about Forgiveness

  • One who conceals an offense seeks love,
    But one who repeats a matter separates close friends.
  • Be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.
  • For if you forgive other people for their offenses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
  • Bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so must you do also.
  • And My people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
  • Do not judge, and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned.
  • Then Peter came up and said to Him, “Lord, how many times shall my brother sin against me and I still forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy-seven times.”
  • One who conceals his wrongdoings will not prosper,
    But one who confesses and abandons them will find compassion.
  • For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive,
    And abundant in mercy to all who call upon You.
  • And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you for your offenses.
  • Who is a God like You, who pardons wrongdoing
    And passes over a rebellious act of the remnant of His possession?
    He does not retain His anger forever,
    Because He delights in mercy.
  • Therefore let it be known to you, brothers, that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses.
  • For the Lord your God is gracious and compassionate, and will not turn His face away from you if you return to Him.
  • And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
  • I acknowledged my sin to You,
    And I did not hide my guilt;
    I said, “I will confess my wrongdoings to the Lord”;
    And You forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah
  • And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
  • In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our wrongdoings, according to the riches of His grace.
  • “And tear your heart and not merely your garments.”
    Now return to the Lord your God,
    For He is gracious and compassionate,
    Slow to anger, abounding in mercy
    And relenting of catastrophe.
  • Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.
  • If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. And if he sins against you seven times a day, and returns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ you shall forgive him.
  • Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
  • Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.
  • Let the wicked abandon his way,
    And the unrighteous person his thoughts;
    And let him return to the Lord,
    And He will have compassion on him,
    And to our God,
    For He will abundantly pardon.
  • So having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now proclaiming to mankind that all people everywhere are to repent.
  • ‘Return, faithless Israel,’ declares the Lord;
    ‘I will not look at you in anger.
    For I am gracious,’ declares the Lord;
    ‘I will not be angry forever.’

But if you do not forgive other people, then your Father will not forgive your offenses.
