He will judge everyone according to what they have done. | God “will repay each person according to what they have done.” |
Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good. | Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. |
|
That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. | Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. |
Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. | Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. |
Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them. | Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. |
For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” | For, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” |
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. | For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. |
Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. | Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. |
Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. | If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. |
May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. | Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. |
Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. | Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. |
We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord. | Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up. |
So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ. | Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. |
As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” | As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” |
For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. | The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. |
But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently. | But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. |
Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. | Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. |
Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law. | Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. |
No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. | No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. |
When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. | You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. |
Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. | Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. |
Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory. | Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. |
What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? | What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? |
Accept other believers who are weak in faith, and don’t argue with them about what they think is right or wrong. | Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters. |
Well then, since God’s grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not! | What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means! |
