| Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? | For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it? |
| So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. | I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. |

| A person’s riches may ransom their life, but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes. | The ransom of a man’s life is his riches, But the poor does not hear rebuke. |
| Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. | Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death. |
| All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one. | But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one. |
| He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? | He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? |

| Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. | But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. | For the practices of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel. They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter. Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them; they can do no harm nor can they do any good. | For the customs of the peoples are futile; For one cuts a tree from the forest, The work of the hands of the workman, with the ax. They decorate it with silver and gold; They fasten it with nails and hammers So that it will not topple.
