Now who will harm you if you become imitators of that which is good? | Now who is going to harm you if you are eager to do what is right? |
You are already pruned clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. | You have already been cleansed by the word I have spoken to you. |
|
If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. | And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do as much. |
But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one. | However, the Lord is faithful. He will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one. |
Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed, you would see God’s glory?” | Jesus replied, “Did I not tell you that if you have faith you will see the glory of God?” |
You shall call on me, and you shall go and pray to me, and I will listen to you. | When you call out to me and come forth and pray to me, I will listen to you. |
Jesus therefore said to them again, “Peace be to you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” | “Peace be with you,” Jesus said to them again. “As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” |
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and flame will not scorch you. | When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; nor will the waters engulf you. When you walk through fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not consume you. |
For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, to the end that you may be established; that is, that I with you may be encouraged in you, each of us by the other’s faith, both yours and mine. | For I am longing to see you so that I may bestow on you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— or, rather, so that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine. |
You shall walk in all the way which Yahweh your God has commanded you, that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall possess. | Continue in all of the ways that the Lord, your God, has commanded you. Continue in them so that you may live and prosper and that you may long dwell on the land of your inheritance. |
You are alienated from Christ, you who desire to be justified by the law. You have fallen away from grace. | Those of you who seek to be justified by the Law have cut yourselves off from Christ and have fallen away from grace. |
All things, whatever you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive. | Whatever you ask for in faith-filled prayer, you will receive. |
I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever. | And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you forever. |
You shall not add to the word which I command you, neither shall you take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of Yahweh your God which I command you. | You will not add to what I command you, nor will you take away from it, so that you might observe the commandments of the Lord, your God, that I am giving you. |
Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so Yahweh, the God of Armies, will be with you, as you say. | Seek good and not evil, so that you may live. Then the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you as you claim he is. |
Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I don’t go away, the Counselor won’t come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. | Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth: it is better for you that I depart. For if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you, whereas if I go, I will send him to you. |
I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes. You will keep my ordinances and do them. | I will put my Spirit in you and make you follow my statutes and my ordinances. |
I have spoken these things to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be made full. | I have told you these things so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete. |
When they lead you away and deliver you up, don’t be anxious beforehand or premeditate what you will say, but say whatever will be given you in that hour. For it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. | When they arrest you and bring you to trial, do not be concerned beforehand about what you are to say. Simply say whatever is given to you when that time comes, for it will not be you who speak but the Holy Spirit. |
If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on, you know him and have seen him. | If you know me, then you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him. You have seen him. |
Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful. | Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled; be not afraid. |
For Yahweh your God will bless you, as he promised you. You will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow. You will rule over many nations, but they will not rule over you. | The Lord, your God, will bless you as he promised you. You will lend to many nations, but borrow from none. You shall rule over many nations, but none shall rule over you. |
My soul, you have said to Yahweh, “You are my Lord. Apart from you I have no good thing.” | I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.” |
How I didn’t shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable, teaching you publicly and from house to house. | I did not hesitate to tell you what was for your benefit as I proclaimed the word to you and taught you publicly as well as from house to house. |
For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. | If you forgive others for the wrongs they have done, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. |
