| Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children. | Hence, be imitators of God, as beloved children. |

| But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints. | Indeed, fornication and impurity of any kind, as well as greed, should not even be mentioned among you. Such talk is not fitting for saints. |
| For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light. | Once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light. |
| For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth. | For light produces all goodness and righteousness and truth. |
| And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. | Take no part in the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather seek to expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of what deeds people do in secret. |
| See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. | Therefore, take care to live as intelligent people, and do not be like those who are senseless. Make the most of the present time, for this is a wicked age. |
| Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. | Wives, be subject to your husbands as you are to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, just as Christ is the head of the Church, the body of which he is the Savior. |
| Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word. | Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her in order to sanctify her by cleansing her with water and the word. |
| So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. | In the same way, husbands should love their wives as they do their own bodies. The man who loves his wife loves himself. |
| For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. | For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. |
| Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. | However, each one of you should love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife should respect her husband. |
