- One who despairs should have the support of his friends
even if he has forsaken the fear of the Almighty. - But I know that my Redeemer lives,
and that at the end he will stand upon the dust. - I have not strayed from the commandments of his lips;
I have treasured in my heart the words of his mouth. - And yet he is aware of everywhere I go;
if he were to test me, I would emerge like pure gold.
My footsteps have not strayed from the path he established;
I have followed his way and never turned aside. - But the Almighty we cannot find;
he is unequaled in power and judgment,
and in his righteousness he will not violate justice. - Then Job arose, tore his cloak, and shaved his head. He threw himself prostrate on the ground and said:
“Naked I emerged from my mother’s womb,
and naked I will return.
The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away;
blessed be the name of the Lord.” - The Lord then said, “Very well. All that he has is in your power. However, you may not lay a hand upon him.” So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord.
- I have made a covenant with my eyes
not to look with desire upon a virgin. - Blessed is the man whom God reproves.
Therefore, do not reject the discipline of the Almighty. - Thereupon the Lord restored the prosperity of Job after he had prayed for his friends, and he enriched him with twice as much as he had possessed before.
