Job - NRSV

  • Those who withhold kindness from a friend
    forsake the fear of the Almighty.
  • For I know that my Redeemer lives,
    and that at the last he will stand upon the earth.
  • I have not departed from the commandment of his lips;
    I have treasured in my bosom the words of his mouth.
  • The Almighty —we cannot find him;
    he is great in power and justice,
    and abundant righteousness he will not violate.
  • Then Job arose, tore his robe, shaved his head, and fell on the ground and worshiped. He said, “Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return there; the Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
  • The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, all that he has is in your power; only do not stretch out your hand against him!” So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.
  • I have made a covenant with my eyes;
    how then could I look upon a virgin?
  • How happy is the one whom God reproves;
    therefore do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.
  • And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job when he had prayed for his friends; and the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.
  • But he knows the way that I take;
    when he has tested me, I shall come out like gold.
    My foot has held fast to his steps;
    I have kept his way and have not turned aside.
