- To him who is afflicted, kindness should be shown by his friend,
Even though he forsakes the fear of the Almighty. - For I know that my Redeemer lives,
And He shall stand at last on the earth. - I have not departed from the commandment of His lips;
I have treasured the words of His mouth
More than my necessary food. - But He knows the way that I take;
When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.
My foot has held fast to His steps;
I have kept His way and not turned aside. - As for the Almighty, we cannot find Him;
He is excellent in power,
In judgment and abundant justice;
He does not oppress. - Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped. And he said:
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
And naked shall I return there.
The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away;
Blessed be the name of the Lord.” - And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person.” So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.
- I have made a covenant with my eyes;
Why then should I look upon a young woman? - Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects;
Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty. - And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.
