The Lord abhors lying lips, but he delights in those who are truthful. | Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight. |
For: “If anyone wishes to love life and to experience good days, he must restrain his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech. He must turn away from evil and do good, seek peace and pursue it.” | For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. |
|
Deliver me, O Lord, from lying lips and from deceitful tongues. | Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue. |
The one who leads a blameless life and does what is right, who speaks the truth from the heart and does not slander anyone, who does not harm a friend and does not scorn a neighbor. | He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour. |
Then keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies. | Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. |
Then he went on, “It is what comes out of a person that defiles. For from within, from the human heart, come evil thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, malice, deceit, indecency, envy, slander, arrogance, and folly. All these evils come from within, and they defile a person.” | And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. |
Do not lie to one another, since you have stripped off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self that is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. | Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him. |
If we claim that we have fellowship with him while we continue to live in darkness, we are lying and do not live in the truth. | If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth. |
Lying lips conceal hatred, and anyone who slanders another is a fool. | He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool. |
Anyone who leads an honorable life walks in safety, but whoever pursues wicked ways will be found out. | He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known. |
A truthful witness does not lie, but a false witness lies incessantly. | A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies. |
A perverse man sows strife, and a tale-bearer destroys close friendships. | A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends. |
You are from your father, the devil, and you choose to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and he does not abide by the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks in accord with his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. | Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. |
You shall not kill. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness. Honor your father and your mother. Love your neighbor as yourself. | Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. |
Keep falsehood and lying far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but simply provide me with the food that I need. | Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me. |
Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you and utter all kinds of calumnies against you for my sake. | Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. |
The fear of the Lord implies hatred of evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil ways and perverse speech. | The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. |
Then Peter asked, “Ananias, why has Satan so gained control of your heart that you lied to the Holy Spirit and retained part of the sale price of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not belong to you? And after it was sold, were not the proceeds yours? What caused you to contrive this scheme? You have lied not to men but to God.” | But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. |
A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, but an undisciplined tongue crushes the spirit. | A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit. |
Turn away from the mouth that deceives and keep your distance from lips that mislead. | Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. |
Fine words are not becoming to a fool, and much less are false words to a noble. | Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince. |
The lips of the righteous utter words of kindness, but the mouth of the wicked knows only how to pervert. | The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness. |
God is not human, that he should lie, or the son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act, does he promise and then not fulfill it? | God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? |
One who gossips reveals secrets, but a trustworthy man keeps things hidden. | A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter. |
Recognizing that laws are not designed for the upright. They are for the lawless and insubordinate, for the godless and sinful, for the unholy and irreligious; they are for those who slay their fathers and mothers, for murderers, for those who are fornicators, sodomites, slave traders, liars, perjurers, and for whatever else is contrary to the sound teaching that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which has been entrusted to me. | Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust. |
