- The Lord abhors lying lips,
but he delights in those who are truthful. - For:
“If anyone wishes to love life
and to experience good days,
he must restrain his tongue from evil
and his lips from deceitful speech.
He must turn away from evil and do good,
seek peace and pursue it.” - Deliver me, O Lord, from lying lips
and from deceitful tongues. - The one who leads a blameless life
and does what is right,
who speaks the truth from the heart
and does not slander anyone,
who does not harm a friend
and does not scorn a neighbor. - Then keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from telling lies. - Then he went on, “It is what comes out of a person that defiles. For from within, from the human heart, come evil thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, malice, deceit, indecency, envy, slander, arrogance, and folly. All these evils come from within, and they defile a person.”
- Do not lie to one another, since you have stripped off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self that is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.
- If we claim that we have fellowship with him
while we continue to live in darkness,
we are lying and do not live in the truth. - Lying lips conceal hatred,
and anyone who slanders another is a fool. - Anyone who leads an honorable life walks in safety,
but whoever pursues wicked ways will be found out. - A truthful witness does not lie,
but a false witness lies incessantly. - A perverse man sows strife,
and a tale-bearer destroys close friendships. - You are from your father, the devil,
and you choose to carry out your father’s desires.
He was a murderer from the beginning,
and he does not abide by the truth,
for there is no truth in him.
When he lies,
he speaks in accord with his own nature,
for he is a liar
and the father of lies. - You shall not kill. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness. Honor your father and your mother. Love your neighbor as yourself.
- Keep falsehood and lying far from me;
give me neither poverty nor riches,
but simply provide me with the food that I need. - Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you and utter all kinds of calumnies against you for my sake.
- The fear of the Lord implies hatred of evil;
I hate pride and arrogance,
evil ways and perverse speech. - Then Peter asked, “Ananias, why has Satan so gained control of your heart that you lied to the Holy Spirit and retained part of the sale price of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not belong to you? And after it was sold, were not the proceeds yours? What caused you to contrive this scheme? You have lied not to men but to God.”
- A wholesome tongue is a tree of life,
but an undisciplined tongue crushes the spirit. - Turn away from the mouth that deceives
and keep your distance from lips that mislead. - Fine words are not becoming to a fool,
and much less are false words to a noble. - The lips of the righteous utter words of kindness,
but the mouth of the wicked knows only how to pervert. - God is not human, that he should lie,
or the son of man, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act,
does he promise and then not fulfill it? - One who gossips reveals secrets,
but a trustworthy man keeps things hidden. - Recognizing that laws are not designed for the upright. They are for the lawless and insubordinate, for the godless and sinful, for the unholy and irreligious; they are for those who slay their fathers and mothers, for murderers, for those who are fornicators, sodomites, slave traders, liars, perjurers, and for whatever else is contrary to the sound teaching that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which has been entrusted to me.
He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress, so that I stand unshaken.
