| Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. | You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? | For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. | For bodily training is just slightly beneficial, but godliness is beneficial for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. |
| And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the Lord our God, as he hath commanded us. | And it will be righteousness for us if we are careful to follow all this commandment before the Lord our God, just as He commanded us. |
| O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever! | If only they had such a heart in them, to fear Me and keep all My commandments always, so that it would go well with them and with their sons forever! |

| God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land. | God makes a home for the lonely; He leads out the prisoners into prosperity, Only the rebellious live in parched lands. |
| Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. | Therefore, whoever nullifies one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. |
