| A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. | I give you a new commandment: love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you should also love one another. |
| And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. | If I give away everything to feed the poor and hand over my body to be burned, but do not have love, I achieve nothing. |
