| The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. All those who do his work have a good understanding. His praise endures forever! | The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise. |

| The testimony is this: that God gave to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. | And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. |
| But he knows the way that I take. When he has tried me, I will come out like gold. My foot has held fast to his steps. I have kept his way, and not turned away. | But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold. | Don’t envy the man of violence. Choose none of his ways. For the perverse is an abomination to Yahweh, but his friendship is with the upright. | Do not envy the violent or choose any of their ways. For the Lord detests the perverse but takes the upright into his confidence. |
| Like a father has compassion on his children, so Yahweh has compassion on those who fear him. | As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him. |
| Praise Yah! Blessed is the man who fears Yahweh, who delights greatly in his commandments. | Praise the Lord. Blessed are those who fear the Lord, who find great delight in his commands. |
| You shall diligently keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he has commanded you. | Be sure to keep the commands of the Lord your God and the stipulations and decrees he has given you. |
| For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life? | What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? |
| The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings out that which is good, and the evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings out that which is evil, for out of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaks. | A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. |

| Blessed is the nation whose God is Yahweh, the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance. | Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance. |
| If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless. | Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. |
| Yahweh restored Job’s prosperity when he prayed for his friends. Yahweh gave Job twice as much as he had before. | After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before. |
| In Hades, he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far off, and Lazarus at his bosom. He cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue! | Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of his calling, and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints. | I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people. |
