A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son gives grief to his mother. | A wise son makes a glad father; but a foolish son brings grief to his mother. |
Hope deferred sickens the heart, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life. | Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when longing is fulfilled, it is a tree of life. |
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall lack. He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me to tranquil streams. | Yahweh is my shepherd; I shall lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. |

It is rash to pledge a sacred gift, or to make a vow and then have second thoughts. | It is a snare to a man to make a rash dedication, then later to consider his vows. |
Make every possible effort to preserve the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. | Being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. |
Come forth! Let us bow down to worship him; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker. | Oh come, let’s worship and bow down. Let’s kneel before Yahweh, our Maker. |
Woe to anyone who rises up against his Maker, or to the pot that is displeased with the potter. Does the clay say to the one who molds it, “What are you doing? Your work makes no sense.” | Woe to him who strives with his Maker— a clay pot among the clay pots of the earth! Shall the clay ask him who fashions it, ‘What are you making?’ or your work, ‘He has no hands’? |
