- A wealthy man pays a ransom to save his life;
a poor man never has to worry about such threats. - Continue in all of the ways that the Lord, your God, has commanded you. Continue in them so that you may live and prosper and that you may long dwell on the land of your inheritance.
- How can a young man lead a spotless life?
By living according to your word. - Nothing gives me greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
- It is the Lord, your God, whom you are to follow. You must fear him and observe his commandments and obey what he tells you and serve him and hold fast to him.

whereas the righteous man gives unsparingly. - What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his very life?
- Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.
- Follow my statutes and keep my commandments and obey them. Then I will give you rain in its proper season and the yield of the land shall increase and the trees of the field shall bear their fruit.

We loathed him and regarded him as of no account,
as one from whom men avert their gaze. - Conduct yourselves wisely toward outsiders, making the most of your opportunity. Let your speech always be gracious and seasoned with wisdom, so that you will know how to respond properly to all.
- Blessed are you when people hate you and ostracize you, when they insult you and denounce your name as evil on account of the Son of Man.
