| A troublemaker plants seeds of strife; gossip separates the best of friends. | A perverse person spreads strife, and a whisperer separates close friends. |
| A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. | People may be right in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their heart. | All deeds are right in the sight of the doer, but the Lord weighs the heart. |
| Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor; only fools insist on quarreling. | It is honorable to refrain from strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel. |
| Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way. | For all of us make many mistakes. Anyone who makes no mistakes in speaking is perfect, able to keep the whole body in check with a bridle. |
