People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness.Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but one who has a hasty temper exalts folly.
Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.Be still before the Lord, and wait patiently for him; do not fret over those who prosper in their way, over those who carry out evil devices.
The rich think of their wealth as a strong defense; they imagine it to be a high wall of safety.The wealth of the rich is their strong city; in their imagination it is like a high wall.
A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.Like a city breached, without walls, is one who lacks self-control.
No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
The wicked borrow and never repay, but the godly are generous givers.The wicked borrow, and do not pay back, but the righteous are generous and keep giving.
Some people are always greedy for more, but the godly love to give!All day long the wicked covet, but the righteous give and do not hold back.
To the faithful you show yourself faithful; to those with integrity you show integrity.With the loyal you show yourself loyal; with the blameless you show yourself blameless.
“They will be my people,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “On the day when I act in judgment, they will be my own special treasure. I will spare them as a father spares an obedient child.”They shall be mine, says the Lord of hosts, my special possession on the day when I act, and I will spare them as parents spare their children who serve them.
There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.Some friends play at friendship but a true friend sticks closer than one's nearest kin.
Don’t envy violent people or copy their ways. Such wicked people are detestable to the Lord, but he offers his friendship to the godly.Do not envy the violent and do not choose any of their ways; for the perverse are an abomination to the Lord, but the upright are in his confidence.
Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.Anxiety weighs down the human heart, but a good word cheers it up.
