Bible Verses about 'Mere'

All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. In all labor there is profit, But mere talk leads only to poverty.
The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?The Lord is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me?
In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?In God, whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
I, even I, am he who comforts you. Who are you that you fear mere mortals, human beings who are but grass.I, I Myself, am He who comforts you. Who are you that you are afraid of mortal man, And of a son of man who is made like grass.
So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”So that we confidently say, “The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What will man do to me?”
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not just hearers who deceive themselves.
They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit. That they were saying to you, “In the last time there will be mockers, following after their own ungodly lusts.” These are the ones who cause divisions, worldly-minded, devoid of the Spirit.
What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? What is man that You think of him, And a son of man that You are concerned about him?
For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.Knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.Little children, let’s not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.
By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And by the breath of His mouth all their lights.
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.Your adornment must not be merely the external—braiding the hair, wearing gold jewelry, or putting on apparel; but it should be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.
And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. And when you are praying, do not use thoughtless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard because of their many words.
Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity.“And tear your heart and not merely your garments.” Now return to the Lord your God, For He is gracious and compassionate, Slow to anger, abounding in mercy And relenting of catastrophe.
