Rejoice in the Lord always! Again I will say, “Rejoice!” | Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say: Rejoice! |
But say the things which fit sound doctrine. | As for you, teach what is consistent with sound doctrine. |
|
What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? | What then can we say in response to all this? If God is for us, who can be against us? |
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh. | Hence, I advise you to be guided by the Spirit, so that you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. |
So that with good courage we say, “The Lord is my helper. I will not fear. What can man do to me?” | Therefore, we can say with confidence: “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?” |
You call me, ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord.’ You say so correctly, for so I am. | You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. |
When they lead you away and deliver you up, don’t be anxious beforehand or premeditate what you will say, but say whatever will be given you in that hour. For it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. | When they arrest you and bring you to trial, do not be concerned beforehand about what you are to say. Simply say whatever is given to you when that time comes, for it will not be you who speak but the Holy Spirit. |
Don’t say, “Why were the former days better than these?” For you do not ask wisely about this. | Do not assert that the past was better than the present, for such a statement is not a sign of wisdom. |
Let no man say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God,” for God can’t be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. | While experiencing temptation, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. |
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” | “But you,” he said to them, “who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” |
Wake up righteously and don’t sin, for some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame. | Come to your senses and sin no more. For some of you have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame. |
If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in the darkness, we lie and don’t tell the truth. | If we claim that we have fellowship with him while we continue to live in darkness, we are lying and do not live in the truth. |
In that day you will say, “Give thanks to Yahweh! Call on his name! Declare his doings among the peoples! Proclaim that his name is exalted!” | And you will say on that day: Give thanks to the Lord, invoke his name; make known his deeds among the nations; proclaim that his name is exalted. |
From that time, Jesus began to preach, and to say, “Repent! For the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.” | From that day forward Jesus began to proclaim the message: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is close at hand.” |
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? May it never be! We who died to sin, how could we live in it any longer? | What then shall we say? Should we persist in sin in order that grace may abound? Of course not! We have died to sin. How can we live in it any longer? |
Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake. | Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you and utter all kinds of calumnies against you for my sake. |
Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come, and the years draw near, when you will say, “I have no pleasure in them.” | Remember your Creator in the days of your youth before the bad times come and the years draw near when you will say, “I take no pleasure in them”. |
Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so Yahweh, the God of Armies, will be with you, as you say. | Seek good and not evil, so that you may live. Then the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you as you claim he is. |
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of Yahweh, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.” | You who abide in the shelter of the Most High, who rest in the shadow of the Almighty, say to the Lord, “You are my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I place my trust.” |
What shall we say then? Is the law sin? May it never be! However, I wouldn’t have known sin except through the law. For I wouldn’t have known coveting unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.” | What then should we say? That the Law is sinful? Absolutely not! Yet if it had not been for the Law, I would not have known what sin was. I would not have known what covet is if the Law had not said, “You shall not covet.” |
My soul, you have said to Yahweh, “You are my Lord. Apart from you I have no good thing.” | I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.” |
For I say through the grace that was given me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of yourself more highly than you ought to think; but to think reasonably, as God has apportioned to each person a measure of faith. | Through the grace that God has bestowed upon me, I advise every one of you not to think of yourself too highly, but to regard yourself objectively, based on the measure of faith that God has granted. |
But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you. | But I say to you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. |
Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘God’s Kingdom has come near to you.’ | Cure the sick who are there, and say, ‘The kingdom of God has come unto you.’ |
You may say in your heart, “How shall we know the word which Yahweh has not spoken?” When a prophet speaks in Yahweh’s name, if the thing doesn’t follow, nor happen, that is the thing which Yahweh has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You shall not be afraid of him. | You might say to yourself, “How can we know that the Lord did not speak the message?” If what the prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord is not true and it does not happen, then the message was not proclaimed by the Lord. The prophet has spoken presumptuously, you should not fear him. |
