Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath in honor of the Lord your God. You shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male slave, nor your female slave, nor your animals, nor the foreigner who dwells with you. The Lord made the heavens and the earth and the seas and that which is in them in six days, but he rested the seventh day. Thus, the Lord blessed the Sabbath and declared it to be sacred. | Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. You shall not oppress the widow or the orphan. If you mistreat them and they cry out to me for help, I will surely hear their cry, and my fury will burn and I will put you to death by the sword. Your wives will be widows and your children will be orphans. | You shall not take advantage of any widow or fatherless child. If you take advantage of them at all, and they cry at all to me, I will surely hear their cry; and my wrath will grow hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless. |
Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed; save me, and I will be saved; you are the one whom I praise. | Heal me, O Yahweh, and I will be healed. Save me, and I will be saved; for you are my praise. |
Jesus answered, “As it is written: ‘Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.’ ” | But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of God’s mouth.’” |
Then it will come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. | It will be that whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved. |
If a man has recently been married, he is not to go off to battle nor have any other duty laid on him. He will be free to stay at home for one year so that he can bring happiness to the wife whom he has married. | When a man takes a new wife, he shall not go out in the army, neither shall he be assigned any business. He shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer his wife whom he has taken. |
The Lord God then formed a woman out of the rib that he had taken from the man. He brought her before the man. The man said, “This one is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called woman because she was taken from man.” This is why a man leaves his father and his mother and joins with a wife, and the two become one flesh. | Yahweh God made a woman from the rib which he had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. She will be called ‘woman,’ because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh. |
May God continue to bless us and be revered to the ends of the earth. | God will bless us. All the ends of the earth shall fear him. |
Therefore, you will be given this sign by the Lord himself: The virgin will be with child, and she will give birth to a son, and she will name him Immanuel. | Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin will conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. |
For sin is no longer to have any power over you, since you are not under the Law but under grace. | For sin will not have dominion over you, for you are not under law, but under grace. |
Observe my Sabbaths and stand in awe before my sanctuary. I am the Lord. | You shall keep my Sabbaths, and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am Yahweh. |
Only goodness and kindness will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever and ever. | Surely goodness and loving kindness shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in Yahweh’s house forever. |
Do not let this book of the law be absent from your mouth; meditate upon it day and night, so that you might carefully observe everything that is written in it. Then you will prosper and be successful. | This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success. |
Blessed are the pure of heart, for they will see God. | Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. |
But for you who fear my name the sun of justice will arise with its healing rays. You will emerge leaping like calves released from the stall. | But to you who fear my name shall the sun of righteousness arise with healing in its wings. You will go out and leap like calves of the stall. |
I am the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt. You know no God but me, nor any savior other than me. | Yet I am Yahweh your God from the land of Egypt; and you shall acknowledge no god but me, and besides me there is no savior. |
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. | Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. |
For six days work can be done, but the seventh is a Sabbath of rest, a holy assembly. You will do no work on it; it is a Sabbath of the Lord in all of your dwellings. | Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation; you shall do no kind of work. It is a Sabbath to Yahweh in all your dwellings. |
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; nor will the waters engulf you. When you walk through fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not consume you. | When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and flame will not scorch you. |
I keep the Lord always before me, for with him at my right hand I will never fall. | I have set Yahweh always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. |
