- For thou, O God, hast proved us:
thou hast tried us, as silver is tried. - The tongue of the just is as choice silver:
the heart of the wicked is little worth. - Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold.
- How much better is it to get wisdom than gold!
and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver! - A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches,
and loving favour rather than silver and gold. - He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.
- Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
- For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
He only is my rock and my salvation:
he is my defence; I shall not be moved. We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth.Next verse! With image
