Bible Verses about 'Sin'

The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power.
Jesus answered them, “Most certainly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is the bondservant of sin.”Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin.”
Everyone who sins also commits lawlessness. Sin is lawlessness.Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God.
For him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.Godliness makes a nation great, but sin is a disgrace to any people.
I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? May it never be! We who died to sin, how could we live in it any longer?Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it?
Blessed is he whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is covered.Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight!
I acknowledged my sin to you. I didn’t hide my iniquity. I said, I will confess my transgressions to Yahweh, and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah. Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.
For sin will not have dominion over you, for you are not under law, but under grace.Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.
What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be!Well then, since God’s grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not!
When he has come, he will convict the world about sin, about righteousness, and about judgment. And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
What shall we say then? Is the law sin? May it never be! However, I wouldn’t have known sin except through the law. For I wouldn’t have known coveting unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.”Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is sinful? Of course not! In fact, it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said, “You must not covet.”
“Be angry, and don’t sin.” Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, and don’t give place to the devil. And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.
Because by the works of the law, no flesh will be justified in his sight; for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.
Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men.So I tell you, every sin and blasphemy can be forgiven—except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which will never be forgiven.
For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we will also be part of his resurrection; knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be in bondage to sin.Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.
But now, being made free from sin and having become servants of God, you have your fruit of sanctification and the result of eternal life. But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life.
Flee sexual immorality! “Every sin that a man does is outside the body,” but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.
But the Scripture imprisoned all things under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. But the Scriptures declare that we are all prisoners of sin, so we receive God’s promise of freedom only by believing in Jesus Christ.
But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son, cleanses us from all sin.But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.
Wake up righteously and don’t sin, for some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.Think carefully about what is right, and stop sinning. For to your shame I say that some of you don’t know God at all.
That as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin.So then, since Christ suffered physical pain, you must arm yourselves with the same attitude he had, and be ready to suffer, too. For if you have suffered physically for Christ, you have finished with sin.

So Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.So also Christ was offered once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him.
