Bible Verses about 'Sin'

The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power.
Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.”Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin.”
Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God.
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.Godliness makes a nation great, but sin is a disgrace to any people.
I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it?
Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight!
I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. SelahFinally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.
For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.
And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment. And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.
What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!Well then, since God’s grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not!
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil. And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.
What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is sinful? Of course not! In fact, it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said, “You must not covet.”
Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. So I tell you, every sin and blasphemy can be forgiven—except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which will never be forgiven.
For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.
For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life.
But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. But the Scriptures declare that we are all prisoners of sin, so we receive God’s promise of freedom only by believing in Jesus Christ.
When he realizes his guilt in any of these and confesses the sin he has committed, he shall bring to the Lord as his compensation for the sin that he has committed. When you become aware of your guilt in any of these ways, you must confess your sin.
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.
So that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin.So then, since Christ suffered physical pain, you must arm yourselves with the same attitude he had, and be ready to suffer, too. For if you have suffered physically for Christ, you have finished with sin.
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.

So Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.So also Christ was offered once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him.

Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.Next verse! With image
