You may say to yourselves, “How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord?” If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed. | You may say to yourself, “How can we recognize a word that the Lord has not spoken?” If a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord but the thing does not take place or prove true, it is a word that the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; do not be frightened by it. |
For this is what the Lord has commanded us: “I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.” | For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, ‘I have set you to be a light for the Gentiles, so that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’ |

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! | Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. |
For the Lord loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. Wrongdoers will be completely destroyed; the offspring of the wicked will perish. | For the Lord loves justice; he will not forsake his faithful ones. The righteous shall be kept safe forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off. |
Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me. | But surely, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life. |
Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. | Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. |
Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked; for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous. | Better is a little that the righteous person has than the abundance of many wicked. For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous. |
The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all. | Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord rescues them from them all. |
For those who find me find life and receive favor from the Lord. | For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord. |

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. | In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. |
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. | Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power. |
Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. | Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. |
Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. | Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually. |
Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. | Wives, be subject to your husbands as you are to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife just as Christ is the head of the church, the body of which he is the Savior. |
This is what the Lord says to Israel: “Seek me and live.” | For thus says the Lord to the house of Israel: Seek me and live. |
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. | Be strong and bold; have no fear or dread of them, because it is the Lord your God who goes with you; he will not fail you or forsake you. |
He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord. | He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord. |
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. | Let everything that breathes praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! |
He builds his lofty palace in the heavens and sets its foundation on the earth; he calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out over the face of the land— the Lord is his name. | Who builds his upper chambers in the heavens, and founds his vault upon the earth; who calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out upon the surface of the earth— the Lord is his name. |
Do not envy the violent or choose any of their ways. For the Lord detests the perverse but takes the upright into his confidence. | Do not envy the violent and do not choose any of their ways; for the perverse are an abomination to the Lord, but the upright are in his confidence. |
Moses was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant—the Ten Commandments. | He was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments. |
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. | Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. |
Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him. | Happy is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways. |
For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. | For what human being knows what is truly human except the human spirit that is within? So also no one comprehends what is truly God's except the Spirit of God. |
