| Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and live? | Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, says the Lord God, and not rather that they should turn from their ways and live? |
| For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. | For the love of Christ urges us on, because we are convinced that one has died for all; therefore all have died. | A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards. | A fool gives full vent to anger, but the wise quietly holds it back. |
| But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. | And whoever does not provide for relatives, and especially for family members, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. |
| A fool's wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame. | Fools show their anger at once, but the prudent ignore an insult. |
| Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. | So those who welcomed his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand persons were added. |
