| See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. | Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. | When goods increase, those who eat them increase; and what gain has their owner but to see them with his eyes? | When goods increase, those who eat them are increased; and what advantage is there to its owner, except to feast on them with his eyes? |
| But even if you do suffer for doing what is right, you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear, and do not be intimidated. | But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “Don’t fear what they fear, neither be troubled.” |
| So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ. | So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. |
| For what human being knows what is truly human except the human spirit that is within? So also no one comprehends what is truly God's except the Spirit of God. | For who among men knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so, no one knows the things of God except God’s Spirit. |
| What then are we to say? Should we continue in sin in order that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin go on living in it? | What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? May it never be! We who died to sin, how could we live in it any longer? |

| And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. | He who searches the hearts knows what is on the Spirit’s mind, because he makes intercession for the saints according to God. |
| For what the flesh desires is opposed to the Spirit, and what the Spirit desires is opposed to the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you want. | For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire. |
| Therefore whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed from the housetops. | Therefore whatever you have said in the darkness will be heard in the light. What you have spoken in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops. |
| Only fear the Lord, and serve him faithfully with all your heart; for consider what great things he has done for you. | Only fear Yahweh, and serve him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things he has done for you. |

Shall the clay ask him who fashions it, ‘What are you making?’ or your work, ‘He has no hands’? |
