Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’ | The one who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’ |
And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever. | The world is passing away and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God continues to live forever. |
Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends. | One who conceals an offense seeks love, But one who repeats a matter separates close friends. |
Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” | Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; the one who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” |
Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God. | Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. |
So then, since Christ suffered physical pain, you must arm yourselves with the same attitude he had, and be ready to suffer, too. Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. | There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. |
And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. | And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for the one who comes to God must believe that He exists, and that He proves to be One who rewards those who seek Him. |
The man who finds a wife finds a treasure, and he receives favor from the Lord. | He who finds a wife finds a good thing And obtains favor from the Lord. |
I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh. | I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats from this bread, he will live forever; and the bread which I will give for the life of the world also is My flesh. |
But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants. | But the one who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds will be revealed as having been performed in God. |
The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. | A generous person will be prosperous, And one who gives others plenty of water will himself be given plenty. |
We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. | We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him. |
A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls. | Like a city that is broken into and without walls So is a person who has no self-control over his spirit. |
Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin.” | Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.” |
To acquire wisdom is to love yourself; people who cherish understanding will prosper. | One who gets wisdom loves his own soul; One who keeps understanding will find good. |
But those who won’t care for their relatives, especially those in their own household, have denied the true faith. Such people are worse than unbelievers. | But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. |
And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their fellow believers. | And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God must also love his brother and sister. |
Give to anyone who asks; and when things are taken away from you, don’t try to get them back. | Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back. |
The father of godly children has cause for joy. What a pleasure to have children who are wise. | The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice, And he who fathers a wise son will be glad in him. |
Wealth from get-rich-quick schemes quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows over time. | Wealth obtained from nothing dwindles, But one who gathers by labor increases it. |
Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut. | When there are many words, wrongdoing is unavoidable, But one who restrains his lips is wise. |
But the one who endures to the end will be saved. | But the one who endures to the end is the one who will be saved. |
Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them. | The one who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and the one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will reveal Myself to him. |
He is the one all the prophets testified about, saying that everyone who believes in him will have their sins forgiven through his name. | All the prophets testify of Him, that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins. |
