| Now who will harm you if you become imitators of that which is good? | Now, who will want to harm you if you are eager to do good? |
| You are already pruned clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. | You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. |
| If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. | And if you do good only to those who do good to you, why should you get credit? Even sinners do that much! |

| Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so Yahweh, the God of Armies, will be with you, as you say. | Do what is good and run from evil so that you may live! Then the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies will be your helper, just as you have claimed. |
| You shall not add to the word which I command you, neither shall you take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of Yahweh your God which I command you. | Do not add to or subtract from these commands I am giving you. Just obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you. |
| I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever. | And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. |
| If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on, you know him and have seen him. | If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him! |
| For Yahweh your God will bless you, as he promised you. You will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow. You will rule over many nations, but they will not rule over you. | The Lord your God will bless you as he has promised. You will lend money to many nations but will never need to borrow. You will rule many nations, but they will not rule over you. |
| When they lead you away and deliver you up, don’t be anxious beforehand or premeditate what you will say, but say whatever will be given you in that hour. For it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. | But when you are arrested and stand trial, don’t worry in advance about what to say. Just say what God tells you at that time, for it is not you who will be speaking, but the Holy Spirit. |
| Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I don’t go away, the Counselor won’t come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. | But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. |
| My soul, you have said to Yahweh, “You are my Lord. Apart from you I have no good thing.” | I said to the Lord, “You are my Master! Every good thing I have comes from you.” |
| Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful. | I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. |
| I have spoken these things to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be made full. | I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! |
| I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes. You will keep my ordinances and do them. | And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations. |
| Therefore you are without excuse, O man, whoever you are who judge. For in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself. For you who judge practice the same things. | You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things. |
| If you love me, keep my commandments. | If you love me, obey my commandments. |
