Good faith (2/4)

  • I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. Now waiting for me is the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day—and not only to me, but to all those who have eagerly longed for his appearance.
  • Through faith you are all children of God in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves in Christ.
  • Let no one regard you with contempt because of your youth, but serve as an example to the believers in your speech and conduct, in your love, your faith, and your purity.
  • Let your love be sincere. Loathe what is evil and hold fast to what is good.
  • We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners, yet we know that a man is justified not by the works of the Law but through faith in Jesus Christ. So we too came to believe in Christ Jesus so that we might be justified by faith in him and not by the works of the Law, for no one will be justified by the works of the Law.
  • But without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever comes to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
  • But he is to ask with faith, without doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed about by the wind.
  • Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
    his mercy endures forever.
  • Taste and see that the Lord is good;
    blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.
  • Put your trust in the Lord and do good,
    that you may dwell in the land and be secure.
  • Turn away from youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, together with those who call on the Lord with a pure heart.
  • The love of money is the root of all evils, and in their desire for it some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many serious wounds.
  • Each of us must consider his neighbor’s good for the purpose of building him up.
  • By faith Abraham also received the power of procreation, even though he was well past the age—and Sarah herself was barren—because he believed that the one who had made the promise would be faithful in fulfilling it.
  • I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
    I have no good apart from you.”
  • Test everything, and hold fast to what is good. Avoid every form of evil.
  • He has satisfied the thirsty
    and filled the hungry with good things.
  • For it is by grace that you have been saved through faith. This has not come from you but from the gift of God. It does not come from works, so that no one can boast.
  • Then you will understand equity and justice
    as well as righteousness—every good path.
  • But according to Scripture all things have been confined under sin, so that through faith in Jesus Christ what was promised might be given to those who believe.
  • Brethren, we must always give thanks to God for you, and it is only right that we do so. For your faith grows ever more, and the love that all of you have for one another continues to increase.
  • If I have the gift of prophecy
    and the ability to understand all mysteries and all knowledge,
    and have all the faith necessary to move mountains,
    but do not have love,
    I am nothing.
  • The powerful suffer want and go hungry,
    but those who seek the Lord want for no good thing.
  • For I am longing to see you so that I may bestow on you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— or, rather, so that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine.
  • The Lord is good,
    an unfailing refuge in a time of distress.
    He takes care of those who place their trust in him.

For:
“If anyone wishes to love life
and to experience good days,
he must restrain his tongue from evil
and his lips from deceitful speech.
He must turn away from evil and do good,
seek peace and pursue it.”

A patient man shows good sense,
but a quick-tempered man displays the height of folly.
