Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. | If a man says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who doesn’t love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? |
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. | We know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and he who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him. |
|
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. | We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose. |
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. | He who doesn’t love doesn’t know God, for God is love. |
And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister. | This commandment we have from him, that he who loves God should also love his brother. |
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. | Beloved, let’s love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. |
No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. | No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God remains in us, and his love has been perfected in us. |
Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. | Love doesn’t harm a neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law. |
If you love me, keep my commands. | If you love me, keep my commandments. |
We love because He first loved us. | We love him, because he first loved us. |
Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. | Beloved, if God loved us in this way, we also ought to love one another. |
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. | There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love. |
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. | Don’t love the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love isn’t in him. |
Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance. | May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you. |
Do everything in love. | Let all that you do be done in love. |
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. | But now faith, hope, and love remain—these three. The greatest of these is love. |
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. | A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also love one another. |
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. | And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins. |
If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. | If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, even as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. |
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments. | Know therefore that Yahweh your God himself is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and loving kindness to a thousand generations with those who love him and keep his commandments. |
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. | For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. |
Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs. | Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all wrongs. |
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. | This is my commandment, that you love one another, even as I have loved you. |
He answered, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ | He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” |
And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ | A second likewise is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ |
