Right and wrong (4/4)

The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help. The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry.
So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.Hence, as sin’s reign resulted in death, so the grace of God also might reign through righteousness resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing.Brethren, we must always give thanks to God for you, and it is only right that we do so. For your faith grows ever more, and the love that all of you have for one another continues to increase.
God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.Blessed are those who are persecuted in the cause of justice, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
O Lord, I have come to you for protection; don’t let me be disgraced. Save me, for you do what is right. In you, O Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; in your righteousness deliver me.
But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants. However, whoever lives by the truth comes to the light so that it may be clearly seen that his deeds have been done in God.
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.”And the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I wish to make another creature who will be like him.”
Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne. To anyone who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, as I myself overcame and sat with my Father on his throne.
Now, who will want to harm you if you are eager to do good? Now who is going to harm you if you are eager to do what is right?
For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.For no one can be regarded as justified in the sight of God by keeping the Law. The Law brings only the consciousness of sin.
But God has protected me right up to this present time so I can testify to everyone, from the least to the greatest. I teach nothing except what the prophets and Moses said would happen— that the Messiah would suffer and be the first to rise from the dead, and in this way announce God’s light to Jews and Gentiles alike. But I have had help from God to this very day, and I stand here and testify to both the lowly and the great. I assert nothing more than what the Prophets and Moses said would occur: that the Christ must suffer, and that, by being the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light to the people and to the Gentiles.
God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor? There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save or to destroy. Who then are you to pass judgment on a neighbor?
You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are beneficial. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not allow myself to be dominated by anything.
You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is beneficial.“All things are lawful,” you may say—but not all things are beneficial. All things may be lawful—but not all things are constructive.
Better to have little, with godliness, than to be rich and dishonest. It is better to have little and be righteous than to acquire great riches with injustice.
For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. He made him who did not know sin to be sin for our sake, so that through him we might become the righteousness of God.
For Christ has already accomplished the purpose for which the law was given. As a result, all who believe in him are made right with God.For Christ is the fulfillment of the Law for the justification of all who believe.
In the night I search for you; in the morning I earnestly seek you. For only when you come to judge the earth will people learn what is right. My soul longs for you throughout the night, and my spirit within me seeks your presence. For when your judgments are revealed to the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn to practice justice.
Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.Therefore, now that we have been justified by faith, we are at peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.I do not set aside the grace of God, for if justification comes through the Law, then Christ died for nothing.
For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace. Those of you who seek to be justified by the Law have cut yourselves off from Christ and have fallen away from grace.
Look at the proud! They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked. But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God.The proud man’s heart is not upright, but the righteous man will live because of his faith.
“All right, you may test him,” the Lord said to Satan. “Do whatever you want with everything he possesses, but don’t harm him physically.” So Satan left the Lord’s presence. The Lord then said, “Very well. All that he has is in your power. However, you may not lay a hand upon him.” So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord.
No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.At the time that discipline is received, it always seems painful rather than pleasant, but afterward it yields a harvest of peace and uprightness to those who have been trained by it.
This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”In it the righteousness of God is revealed, beginning in faith and established in faith. As it is written: “The one who is righteous will live through faith.”

Even when I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.
