| Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake. | God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. |
| I will never forget your precepts, for with them, you have revived me. | I will never forget your commandments, for by them you give me life. |
| You husbands, in the same way, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman as to the weaker vessel, as also being joint heirs of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered. | In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered. |
| In you, Yahweh, I take refuge. Let me never be disappointed. Deliver me in your righteousness. | O Lord, I have come to you for protection; don’t let me be disgraced. Save me, for you do what is right. |
| Out of the depths I have cried to you, Yahweh. Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my petitions. | From the depths of despair, O Lord, I call for your help. Hear my cry, O Lord. Pay attention to my prayer. |
| Let no one seek his own, but each one his neighbor’s good. | Don’t be concerned for your own good but for the good of others. |
| Yahweh will fulfill that which concerns me. Your loving kindness, Yahweh, endures forever. Don’t forsake the works of your own hands. | The Lord will work out his plans for my life— for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever. Don’t abandon me, for you made me. |
| I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you. | The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” |
| Go your way—eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart; for God has already accepted your works. | So go ahead. Eat your food with joy, and drink your wine with a happy heart, for God approves of this! |
| Only fear Yahweh, and serve him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things he has done for you. | But be sure to fear the Lord and faithfully serve him. Think of all the wonderful things he has done for you. |
| May he grant you your heart’s desire, and fulfill all your counsel. | May he grant your heart’s desires and make all your plans succeed. |
| But I tell you who hear: love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you. | But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you. |
| I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, your transgressions, and, as a cloud, your sins. Return to me, for I have redeemed you. | I have swept away your sins like a cloud. I have scattered your offenses like the morning mist. Oh, return to me, for I have paid the price to set you free. |
