- I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation to know him.

and whose wisdom is great. - Conduct yourselves wisely toward outsiders, making the most of your opportunity. Let your speech always be gracious and seasoned with wisdom, so that you will know how to respond properly to all.
- Who among you is wise and understanding? Prove by your good life that your works are done with the humility that comes from wisdom.

- Do not pride yourself on your own wisdom;
fear the Lord and turn your back on evil.
This will provide healing for your flesh
and restore strength to your body. - Do not assert that the past was better than the present,
for such a statement is not a sign of wisdom. - You shall not oppress the widow or the orphan. If you mistreat them and they cry out to me for help, I will surely hear their cry, and my fury will burn and I will put you to death by the sword. Your wives will be widows and your children will be orphans.
- Do not wear yourself out in the pursuit of wealth,
and cease even to think about it. - For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but rather a spirit of power and of love and of wisdom.
- Why are you so disheartened, O my soul?
Why do you sigh within me?
Place your hope in God;
for I will once again praise him,
my Savior and my God. - You have given me the shield of your salvation;
your right hand sustains me,
and your goodness makes me great.
You broadened the path beneath me
so that my feet have never stumbled. - And I will ask the Father,
and he will give you another Advocate
to be with you forever.
