- And thus we can have confidence in him
that if we ask anything
that is in accordance with his will,
he hears us. - We have come to know
and to believe in
the love that God has for us.
God is love,
and whoever abides in love
abides in God,
and God in him. - Therefore, we love because he first loved us.
- However, if we confess our sins,
he who is faithful and just
will forgive our sins
and cleanse us from all wrongdoing. - In love there is no fear;
indeed, perfect love casts out fear,
because fear has to do with punishment,
and whoever fears
has not yet achieved perfection in love. - For everyone born of God
conquers the world.
And the victory that conquers the world
is our faith. - Dear children,
let us love not in word or speech
but in deed and truth. - If someone says, “I love God,”
but at the same time hates his brother,
he is a liar.
For whoever does not love the brother
whom he has seen
cannot love God whom he has not seen. - And if we know that he hears us
in regard to whatever we ask him,
we may be sure
that all we ask of him will be ours. - See what love
the Father has bestowed on us,
enabling us to be called the children of God,
and that is what we are.
If the world does not recognize us,
that is because it did not know him.
